Sunday Is the Last Day for the Birmingham Farmers Market

The Birmingham Farmers Market's 2012 season wraps up Sunday with an end-of-season celebration.

It's been a good year for the Birmingham Farmers Market. Marking its 10th year in Birmingham, the Farmers Market has celebrated everything from corn to flowers, health and fitness to the fall harvest.

And this Sunday, more than 70 local vendors come out for the last time this year to mark the End-of-Season Celebration.

According to John Heiney, director of Birmingham's Principal Shopping District, 2012 was a year of continued growth for the Farmers Market.

"We hosted an average of 2,800 visitors each week, up from 2,200 last year," Heiney said. "We want to thank our patrons, farmers and volunteers for another great year."

So, what will you find at this year's End-of-Season Celebration? Make sure to dress up your kids in their Halloween costumes and come out for:

  • Hayrides
  • Corn shelling
  • A kids pumpkin craft table
  • Old fashioned kettle corn wagon
  • Pumpkin carving demostrations all day
  • Live music

The Birmingham Farmers Market takes place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Parking Lot No. 6, located off North Old Woodward Avenue across from Luxe Bar & Grill. While an opening date for the 2013 season has not yet been set, the Birmingham Farmers Market traditionally takes place May-October.
