Party Picks: 4 Fun Wedding Party Favors

Photo strips, candles and sweets make great gifts for wedding guests.

With such a huge variety of party favors available, it’s hard to pin down the trendiest favors. Area businesses that cater to the wedding industry suggest a handful of hot items to offer wedding guests:

Photo strips

One of the hot additional items to rent for a wedding is a photo booth. Infinity Photobooth out of Clawson provides couples a large photo booth capable of holding 15-20 people – with the ability to capture about 14 of those faces at one time. Unlimited packages are offered, so there is no cap to the number of pictures guests can make goofy faces for and walk away with.

“The good thing about a photo booth is that transcends all ages,” said Izumi Mason, a partner at Infinity Photobooth, which is one of several businesses that will be at Sunday's in West Bloomfield. “People (ages) 3 to 103 can enjoy it. There’s just something fun about getting in front of the camera.”

Within 90 seconds after posing for the series of photos, attendees will receive their own copy of the photo strip as their keepsake. In addition to guests keeping a copy and a CD of the photos the couple receives, Infinity Photobooth staff puts together a custom memory album on site and requests that everyone write a note next to their photo in the book.

“Photo booths are great for weddings for sure, but become such a hit whenever you get a big group of people together,” Mason said. “They’re just so candid and it’s so much fun to see how much fun everyone was having at your wedding or event.”

Chocolate

Chocolate lovers may be tempted to accrue a chocolate fountain for their wedding, but that’s not their only option. According to Doug Cale, owner of Birmingham Chocolate, a franchise of in Birmingham, there is a lot that can be done with chocolate, especially in terms of party favors. Popular doses of chocolate include chocolate letter favors with the initial of the couple’s last name displayed.

“A lot of these things can be customized and done really classy,” Cale said. Some brides and grooms choose to mix white and dark chocolate to represent each other.

Boxes with two-four truffles inside are popular, too – especially truffles that are monogrammed with details of the married couple. Dozens of other variations of chocolate are available that can incorporate the couple's last name and date of the wedding. Chocolate bow ties, roses, rings and more make symbolic (and delicious!) wedding favors. Packaging is available for the chocolates and tends to tie in with the wedding colors.

Cupcakes

Center Cupcakes offers a unique decorating, dessert and party favor combination. Stacey Goldstone, owner of the bakery based in Flint and a resident of West Bloomfield, creates cupcake centerpieces that make the cupcakes look like flowers arranged in pots or bouquets. She assures that her cupcake design can last throughout the evening perched in the center of the table.

“It’s a money saver, basically. The couple can announce it’s time for dessert and sometimes guests don’t even realize they are cupcakes in the center,” Goldstone said. “Other times the bride and groom will have bakery boxes passed out so the guests can take them home as a party favor.”

Candles

Davisburg Candle Factory out of Davisburg is one of many places to find lovely smelling party favors. From lavender to magnolia to vanilla, candles can add an even fresher scent to the event. Votives are popular and make great favors at weddings, said Phoebe Bojanzyk, co-owner of Davisburg Candle Factory. She noted the candles tend to be wrapped in nylon net and tied with a bow for guests to take home. The votives can be any color the couple wants. Floating candle flowers are also popular as centerpieces, but can be dispersed as favors as well. Like the votives, these candles are available in a wide range of colors and scents.

For more party favor options, the companies included in this report and more will be at the annual  on Sunday, which has a Wedding Marketplace section this year, at the
