Kroger Store Closing for $5.5 Million Facelift

The Kroger grocery store in Birmingham will be closing in a few weeks for a $5.5 million remodeling that could take up to 16  weeks to complete.

The store, located at Woodward Avenue and Maple Road, will close in August, The Oakland Press reports. The pharmacy will remain open during the renovation.

Some of the new additions planned for the store include a sushi bar, soup and sandwich bar, an olive island, and a Murray’s Cheese Shop, Kroger spokesman Ken McClure said.

The cheese shop has been popular as it’s been added to Kroger stores around Michigan, he said.

The store size will remain the same, but the space will be reorganized.

Cincinnati-based  Kroger (KR) is the nation’s largest supermarket chain and the fifth-largest retailer in the world, operating 2,435 grocery stores in 31 states under nearly two dozen brands, including Kroger, Ralphs, King Soopers, Smith's and Fry's, USA Today reports.
