We've got the sales you want and the deals you need this week in Birmingham.

This week, Frugal Family scoured local sources to come up with great deals, from bargains on everything from massages to lighting kits for studio photographers. Remember to check with the merchants for additional conditions:


  1. Deal:
    Are you a teacher? Teachers receive $25 off at Spa Mariana this month for a variety of services, including several kinds of massage. Bring your teacher's ID to the spa on Bowers Street for more details.

  2. Deal:
    The liquidation sale continues, and Borders has marked everything at 40 percent to 60 percent off this week. All children's books, travel books and cookbooks are 40 percent off; literary fiction, business and romance are 50 percent off; and politics, philosophy and magazines are 60 percent off.

  3. Deal:
    Receive 20 percent off Promaster two-light or three-light studio lighting kits from Woodward Camera using special Web coupon at woodwardcamera.com/coupon.html/.

  4. Deal:
    Get your favorite cereal while you can. Quaker cereals, such as Life and Captain Crunch, cost $1.99 a box with a Kroger Plus card.

    It's a sign of the summer. Four-packs of sweet bell peppers are two for $4.

Yesterday on my street, I saw a tree, on city property, with 'stuff' piled high around the base ofRead More the tree. I tried to tell the two gentlemen there it would eventually kill the tree. 'Not so!' they replied, according to, I believe, their landscaper. They then proceeded to try and placate this nosy gray haired woman. Maybe someone from the city could clue them in??
