Business in Brief: New Chef at Zazios, Win a Fiat

Zazios hires new executive chef

is welcoming two new members to its cooking staff. The restaurant named Jamie Kalmus as its new executive chef and Alex Lucier as its new sous chef. Kalmus is coming from Northern Lakes Restaurant in Bloomfield Hills, where he had been executive chef for six years. "We are happy and excited to have both Jamie and Alex on board," Zazio's Facebook page read Monday. "Exciting times are happening at Zazios Birmingham. Don't miss it."

Purple Bear open for limited hours Thursday, Friday

will be open for limited hours Thursday and Friday as store employees prepare for Day on the Town Saturday. To make up, the Purple Bear will be open for extended hours Wednesday. "We look forward to seeing everyone early this week, or Wednesday for extended hours. Lots of good deals happening!"

Figo customers can win new a Fiat, help fight hunger

In honor of Birmingham's Day on the Town, will be offering customers who visit the salon Saturday the chance to win a 2012 Fiat 500 while also working to help fight hunger.

Figo customers with a regularly scheduled salon appointment Saturday — or those who purchase salon products — will be entered in a drawing to win a Fiat 500. In addition, anyone who brings a food donation for Forgotten Harvest will receive an additional entry. At the end of the day, Figo will donate 10 percent of salon service and salon product purchases to Forgotten Harvest.

"At Figo Salon, it is just as important for us to contribute to our community philanthropically as it is for us to provide our clientele with the most innovative stylists and superb hair design," Figo owner Rino Marra said.

Throughout the day Saturday, 10 Fiat 500s will be on display at the salon. Since May, Figo has been hosting "Fiat at Figo on Fridays," with 10 percent of salon sales every Friday going to Forgotten Harvest until the end of July. The salon also holds weekly silent auctions, with proceeds going to the food rescue organization.

The winner of the Fiat 500 giveaway will be announced at Figo's client appreciation event, Driven by Style, on Aug. 13 at Tre Monti.
