Dance City offering online registration

Signing up your tot for beginner ballet, or you and your hubby for salsa lessons just got a lot easier. is now offering online registration for all its classes. Repeat customers can create a profile with the site to save your personal information, then visit the online registration page to easily sign up for classes.

Claymore Shop honored by top menswear magazine

Bob Benkert of Birmingham's Claymore Shop was honored Monday at MR Magazine's annual "Uptown Downtown" ceremony, receiving an award for retail innovation. The ceremony was attended by nearly 300 men's top apparel executives and retailers.

The award, given out to only a handful of men's retailers in the United States and Canada every year, was presented by MR editor in chief Karen Alberg.

"With an emphasis on fine clothing and contemporary fashion in both of his stores, coupled with his unique personal style, Bob Benkert has made The Claymore Shop one of America's finest specialty stores," Alberg said.

Birmingham residents named to Sky Foundation board

David Cosgrove, a Birmingam resident, has been elected to serve as director for the Sky Foundation, a local non-profit dedicated to raising awareness and funding research for the early detection of pancreatic cancer based in Bloomfield Hills.

Fellow board members Niki Gallaudet and Judith McClelland, as well as advisory board member Janice Steinhardt, are also Birmingham residents.

The Sky Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Project is a scientific partnership between the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, Henry Ford Health System, and Wayne State University.

Flemings to host exclusive wine release

For one week, Flemings Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar will be the only restaurant and wine bar in the country to offer a 2007 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the newest vintage from Silver Oak Cellars in California. Both the Birmingham and Livonia locations of Flemings will have exclusive rights to the wine the week beginning Aug. 6. 

Flemings will offer the wine at $100 a bottle until Sept. 30, or until inventory runs out.
