Bites Nearby: Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar

Tucked inside Rochester Chop House, this comfortable place offers anything a seafood lover would want.

Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar, 500 Main St., Rochester (248) 651-2260

The oyster bar with its down-east wharfside flavor is what might be called the front room of the , the more upscale restaurant in which Kabin Kruser's is located. Both are worthwhile destinations, but for those who like the informality of an oyster bar, Kabin Kruser's is a favorite. It's simply a very comfortable place, with food that measures up in every regard, offering just about anything a seafood lover would want.

Heaped high on crushed ice in a galvanized metal tub behind the bar are the oysters, shrimp and clams of the raw bar. Chalked on blackboards around the room that seats 50 in bi-level space, is the extensive list of dishes, including crabcakes, whitefish, tuna and swordfish, blackened or grilled, as well as sandwiches and fish tacos, served with with flash-fried or chargrilled grouper.

Saturday and Sunday Happy Hour from 2-5 p.m. was recently added to the attractions.
