Best Thing We Ate This Week: Margherita Pizza

I was craving pizza all week, so I decided to give a new pizza place a try – . It's hard to miss with it's mini Statue of Liberty perched near the corner of Maple and Henrietta, but I had yet to walk into the pizza joint.

It has a handful of different kinds of pizza slices on display, and because I was having lunch solo, I opted for just one slice of the Margherita Pizza. That particular type of pizza, cooked in a wood burning oven like all the rest, is served with tomato and fresh basil over a thick coat of mozzarella cheese and costs $3.30 for a slice.

In addition to the pizza, I ordered a beverage and four of the garlic knots (four for $1). After I was handed my tray I chose a seat on a stool near the door, facing a wall of interesting black and white photographs of New York and the Statue of Liberty. Though I enjoyed looking at the pictures, I liked the pizza more.

The mozzarella cheese was delicious, and the scattered tomatoes offered just the right amount of juice. Typically, I favor a deep-dish crust, but Brooklyn's crust is just right. It's not too thin and has a crunchy appeal.

The garlic knots complemented the pizza and by the end of the meal I was quite full and satisfied. It's too bad, too, because I was eyeing the variety of gelato it serves as well. How can you go wrong by offering pizza and gelato? I don't think you can!

I've never had a slice of pizza in Brooklyn, NY, but I'll be treating myself to more Brooklyn Pizza in Birmingham in the future.
