Amici's Gourmet Pizza To-Go Looks to Thrive on Grant Street

Customers can pick up pies, salads and sandwiches or have them delivered.

, a Berkley favorite known for its fresh gourmet pies and hip martini lounge, has added a location in Birmingham.

Owners Jennifer Stark and Maureen McNamara opened Amici’s Gourmet Pizza To-Go on May 16.

The new restaurant has the same menu, fresh ingredients, friendly service and even the same type of oven, driven all the way from Florida. The biggest difference is an added convenience for customers.

The Birmingham location is a take-out or delivery location only, with extended hours for lunchtime patrons. The Berkley location is only open for dinner.

“Our idea (for a to-go store) is a concept, a first try of many,” McNamara said.

Stark added that Birmingham was an ideal location because it is an underserved market for fresh gourmet pizza, especially for customers with a busy lifestyle.

“We believe the people of Birmingham care about good food and quality ingredients,” Stark said.

With options for vegans, vegetarians and those who eat gluten-free, Amici’s has transformed a calorie-heavy meal into healthy, guilt-free gourmet pizzas.

Partners Stark and McNamara also brought the comfort of Berkley’s Living Room into the Birmingham to-go location.

“We wanted the lobby to be special, not like a typical take-out pizza place, more comfortable,” McNamara said.

Fine art and Amici’s logo set in imported Italian tile adorn the walls. A sleek love seat and counter seating offer patrons a comfortable place to wait.

Since opening in May, business has been blooming; yet, Stark and McNamara hope to see the lunchtime business increase, especially because they offer catering and delivery.

“Eighty percent of our customers haven’t had our pizza,” McNamara said.

The restaurant also offers salads, breadsticks, sandwiches and pasta.

Stark said they plan to market to more Birmingham businesses within the next few weeks.

“We have room to grow,” said Stark, who shared that they hope to take the Amici’s to-go concept to Metro Detroit's western suburbs.

Amici's Gourmet Pizza To-Go is located at 1160 Grant St., directly south of Lincoln, and delivers within a 5-mile radius.
