Christine Rosender: We first thought of opening a store like this about seven years ago when we moved back to Michigan. At the time, we were immersed in other business careers, and the economy was not in the best shape for it. We have seen the sport (of triathlons) grow tremendously over the past several years and decided now was the perfect time.

Patch: What inspires you every day when you come into the store for work?

Rosender: I love that I can be a part of the local triathlon community every day and help athletes find the right gear and equipment to pursue their athletic goals. Helping new athletes just entering the sport is also really exciting to me since they have so much room to grow.

Patch: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Rosender: I wanted to be an animal doctor and a mom. At least one of those things came true. Adam wanted to be a doctor when he was little so that he could help people.

Patch: What are some of the biggest challenges facing you as a small business owner in Birmingham?

Rosender: We are a brand-new store, so getting our name out there and getting people to know we are here is probably our biggest challenge.

Patch: Why did you choose Birmingham for Level Multisport?

Rosender: We lived in Birmingham for three years when we moved to Michigan and fell in love with the area. There is a big sense of community and lots of outdoor activity in and around the downtown area. Birmingham seemed like a great central location to house a premier multisport retail spot.

Patch: What have been some of your most rewarding and fun experiences at the store so far?

Rosender: Our Saturday morning group run from the store was a great and fun way to kick off our store opening. Local residents and athletes have been very enthusiastic about our arrival to the neighborhood and are excited to be involved with our store.

Patch: How does your personality play into your business?

Rosender: I am extremely passionate about the sport of triathlon, including both road and off-road (Xterra) triathlons. As a certified yoga instructor and advocate, I also feel strongly about integrating yoga into a healthy lifestyle to enhance one's overall physical wellness.

Patch: What's one thing about your business that you would never change?

Rosender: One thing that will never change is our passion and respect for the sport. We are constantly welcoming ideas and feedback from our customers so that we can always provide the best products and services.

Patch: What's your favorite spot in Birmingham?

Rosender: I love the Center for Yoga and Tweak. They both have great coaches and instructors. I also enjoy playing with my two daughters at Booth Park across the street from our store. We love our location because we get to see people running and walking by as well as families playing at the park.

Patch: What would you like the Birmingham community to know about yourself?

Rosender: I am happy to be a part of the community and plan to do group activities, catering to athletes of all levels. We plan on hosting races in the future and will be forming our own Level Multisport racing team.
