Go Under the Sea when 'The Little Mermaid Jr.' Comes to Seaholm this Week

The fall musical will be presented by Project DayDream.

A beloved underwater adventure is coming to life, right here in Birmingham.

This Thursday and Friday, bring the whole family over to Seaholm High School for special performances of The Little Mermaid Jr.

Presented by Project DayDream, a performing arts company in Birmingham, the fall musical will bring Ariel, Ursula and Sebastian and other members of the beloved Disney classic to life, through the talent of 30 local adolescent actors.

"Considering the average age and level of experience for the majority of the cast members, we are more than impressed with their progress and excited to see them grow during the final phase of production," said Tiffany Sims, founder and director of Project DayDream.

The actors have practiced their hearts out over the past eight weeks, belting out classics such as "Part of Your World" and "Under the Sea." The play is adapted from a 2008 Broadway production of the same name in which a young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home and her father's magical kingdom. But she encounters obstacles along the way including defying her father, King Triton, and losing her voice to an evil sea witch named Ursula.

Project DayDream has been gracing the stages of Seaholm and Groves  for nearly 10 years, and considers the high schools their theatrical homes.

The Little Mermaid Jr. is Project DayDream's second production in the 2012-13 Season of Dreams series. Next up is the musical, Les Miserables, which will serve as the company's 40th musical and special 10 Year Anniversary production and will play at Seaholm this December.
