See How Detroit 'Put the World on Wheels' During Free Exhibit at the Townsend

Birmingham's Townsend Hotel will exhibit the works of Michigan-based photographer Leona Webb through Jan. 31.

Just in the time for the North American International Auto Show later this month, the Townsend Hotel is taking a look at Detroit's automotive history by hosting a free photo exhibit in the hotel's lobby.

"Detroit — Put the World on Wheels," a collection of photos from Ann Arbor-based photographer Leona Webb, will be on display in the Townsend Hotel lobby beginning today through Jan. 31. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The exhibit features a series of photos dedicated exclusively to Detroit's automotive history, with a look at cars built in Detroit as well as the city's architectural landmarks.

The exhibit is timed to coincide with the annual North American International Auto Show, being held in downtown Detroit Jan. 14-27. Car-lovers are invited to check out the exhibit while they're in town for the car show, Hope Brown, a representative for the Townsend, said.

Raised in Northern Michigan, Webb's work has been exhibited extensively through the Metro Detroit area.

"My wish is for you to see these images as other than what they seem to represent," Webb's writes on her websie, www.leonawebbphotography.com. "The images of doors are not just doors. The images of cars are not just cars. ... All of these images are abstractions to one degree or another."

Webb told Fox 2 that she will be on hand to meet with art patrons every Thursday-Sunday, if not more.

"I've always loved cars and I have to admit my first job was a job at General Motors," she said.
