Our pick for today: Carols by Candlelight

  • When: 7 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Our Shepherd Lutheran Church
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Our Shepherd Lutheran Church is hosting its 62nd annual Carols by Candlelight this weekend. Conducting will be choirmaster John Wittrock, who has conducted the church's five combined choirs 44 times now. A cookie and punch reception will follow the concert in the church's fellowship hall.

“Our first Carols by Candlelight was on Dec. 24, 1950 and was conducted by then choirmaster Erich Bredehoeft,” said Katie Priskorn, church office manager and assistant music director. “Several times the senior choir appeared on the Channel 4 TV program ‘Church at the Crossroads’. The sanctuary is always full and we advise people to get there early to guarantee getting a good seat.”
