Mozart Requiem with Oakland Choral Society and Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony

The (BBSO) will present a tribute performance in honor of a dearly departed friend and member, Julia Kurtyka. The BBSO will perform Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D minor with the Oakland Choral Society and conductor Fredric DeHaven.

Refreshments will follow the performance. Admission is free.  Any donations will benefit the BBSO - Julia C. Kurtyka Children’s Education Fund.

Ms. Kurtyka was a violinist with the Birmingham-Bloomfield, Grosse Pointe, Redford, Plymouth, Dearborn and Livonia symphonies and the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra. She was a member of the BBSO for 22 years and served as BBSO Orchestra Administrator and Librarian for over ten years.  Ms. Kurtyka was also a co-founder of the Lexington Bach Festival and an adjunct professor of music education at Wayne State University.  Accomplished in her field, she was well-loved and passionate about sharing her zest for life and music with audiences and her students.  The BBSO-Julia C. Kurtyka Children’s Education Fund will support Ms. Kurtyka’s lifelong commitment to building the next generation of musicians through education and outreach activities. The fund will help to sponsor an annual BBSO Young People’s Concert and support the development of young musicians in need of financial assistance.
