DIA Downtown: A Divine Message in St. James Park

Italian artist's painting is one of seven works on display in downtown Birmingham this fall.

A digital reproduction of Annunciatory Angel from around 1450 by Italian artist Fra Angelico can be found amongs the serenity of St. James Park. The piece is part of the Detroit Institute of Arts' (DIA) Inside|Out program which takes art reproductions to the streets of suburban Detroit communities.

Here's what the DIA had to say about Annunciatory Angel:

To depict the angel Gabriel, artist Fra Angelico used real gold on the surface of the painting. According to the Bible, Gabriel delivered a divine message to Mary: seh would become the mother of Jesus. This picture, as one of a pair, only tells half the story.
