Axel Foley Returns To Michigan for ‘Beverly Hills Cop’

The “Beverly Hills Cop” movie will begin filming soon, with Eddie Murphy returning as Axel Foley.

Announcements were made last week that the movie – directed by Brett Ratner and produced by Detroit native Jerry Bruckheimern –  has been approved for a tax incentive by the state, according to The Daily Tribune.

The film, which is set to be released March 2016, will receive a $13.5 million rebate based on in-state expenditures of more than $50 million.

The project is expected to employ more than 300 Michigan workers and create 318 temporary jobs in the state.

“Beverly Hills Cop” is the story of Axel Foley, a Beverly Hills detective that finds himself in Detroit for one the coldest winters the city has ever seen. During his time in Detroit, Axel is forced to navigate the city and its new rules, but also face old enemies,” according to a press release from the Michigan Film Office.

“We are excited to welcome Axel Foley and the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise back to Michigan,” Margaret O’Riley, Director of the Michigan Film Office told The Daily Tribune. “This project will highlight locations throughout metro Detroit that speak to the city’s heritage while making significant investments in the community by hiring Michigan workers and local businesses.”

Film credits totalling $200 million have been extended to a dozen productions with budgets of $50,000 or more in 2014. In return, the films are expected to provide 1,148 temporary jobs.
