What's Open, Closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day?

Most schools, state and federal offices are closed for the day, but not everything.

It's Martin Luther King Jr. Day, where some local schools, municipalities and community centers pay homage to the civil rights champion by closing their doors and stopping regular activities. See the list of MLK Day events occurring in and around the Bloomfield area today.

Others, however, stay open and often offer special programming to commemorate the man and what he stood for. Here's a list of what's open:

  • City Hall
  • Birmingham Police Department
  • Birmingham Fire Department
  • Baldwin Public Library
  • The Community House

All state and federal offices, however, will be closed on Monday, including the U.S. Post Office on Bowers Street.

Most local banks are also closed for the holiday, including the Birmingham Bloomfield Credit Union, First Place Bank, Bank of America, Paramount Bank, Bank of Birmingham, mBank, Chase Bank and Comerica Bank.
