Temple Beth El Hires Rabbi Mark Miller

The landmark temple in Bloomfield Township welcomes Rabbi Mark Miller from Houston.

Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township will soon have a new rabbi.

The congregation will welcome Rabbi Mark Miller to the community in just a few weeks, Executive Director Tessa Goldberg confirmed Wednesday. A more formal announcement and and official start date are forthcoming.

Miller will help fill a void at the temple since the surprising departure of Keren Alpert in November. She resigned after admitting to temple officials that she did not attain the proper credentials to be a rabbi.

Miller comes from congregation Beth Israel in Houston. The Colorado native was actively involved in community building, engaging worship, social justice, and supporting Israel during his time there, according to the congregation's website

"Away from the synagogue, Rabbi Miller enjoys throwing a baseball with his boys, playing guitar, hiking, and trying to re-create the delicacies from “Top Chef,'" his profile reads.
