UPDATED: Storms Knock Out Power in Birmingham

High winds and heavy rain caused widespread outages across Metro Detroit Wednesday.

Updated 7 a.m.: The DTE Outage Map is no longer showing the concentration of power lost along Evergreen Road.

More than 1,000 Birmingham residents remain without power this morning after heavy storms swept through Metro Detroit Wednesday evening.

The majority of residents impacted live along Evergreen Road between Maple and 13 Mile Road, according to the DTE Outage Map. Storms knocked out the power shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday. More than 60,000 customers lost power due to the storm.

A cold front, mixed with unseasonably warm and moist air, triggered heavy showers and thunderstorms across southeast Michigan, according to the National Weather Service. Damaging winds appeared to be the cause for widespread outages across the region before the storms ceased at about 8 p.m.

The forecast calls for more rain today, but not until the evening, likely after 7 p.m. High temperatures will reach about 77 degrees with a low of 51 tonight. The chance of rain is 30 percent.
