Special Animal Programs at Johnson Nature Center This Weekend

Learn what you need to know about coyotes, birds and more in Oakland County during a special weekend at the center in Bloomfield Township.

It's Super Bowl weekend, but are you wondering what you can do that won't (most likely) involve pigskin and requires more than a 30-second attention span? How about getting in touch with nature by taking a peek at the Weekend Spotlight.

Today's Pick I: Coyote Friend or Foe?

  • When: 1 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Johnson Nature Center
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Hear Wayne State University researcher Bill Dodge discuss his findings about the urban coyote population throughout the Detroit area, including Bloomfield Township. Today's Pick II: Super Bird Sunday

  • When: 8 a.m. Sunday
  • Where: Johnson Nature Center
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: The community is invited to join the Johnson Nature Center staff as they conduct the annual winter bird count and census. Birdwatchers of all ages and levels of experience are welcome. Warm refreshments will be provided.
