Should the Birmingham Farmers Market Keep the Extra Hour?

Attendance dropped-off after 2 p.m., but officials haven't ruled out keeping the extra hour at the Birmingham Farmers Market.

Another season of the Birmingham Farmers Market is behind us. This year, the Principal Shopping District extended the day by an hour until 3 p.m. every Sunday. Were you a fan?

Officials with the PSD said the added hour brought challenges, as well as opportunities, and that a decision on whether to keep it for the 2014 season is pending.

A survey of market patrons in September showed most favored the extra hour, PSD spokeswoman Lori Rondello said.

"That said, it does make an extra-long day for the farmers and specialty vendors," she added. "We will talk to farmers over the winter and decide about whether to keep the extra hour for 2014."
