Got a Hidden Treasure? 'Antiques Roadshow' Coming to Detroit

PBS's popular prime-time series will kick off the 2014 season in the Detroit area.

Clean out the basement, scour the attic and dip into that storage closet. That excess stuff you've inherited, collected and been holding onto for years may just bring an unexpected payday this summer.

"Antiques Roadshow," the popular PBS show where average Americans bring their family heirlooms, keepsakes, and even once-thought-of junk for televised appraisals, is coming to Detroit this summer for one of the eight tour stops nationwide.

The June 1 visit will kickoff the 2014 season, which will be the show's 18th. An exact location for the event was not released, but free tickets are available by applying on the show's website for a random drawing. All online ticket applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. April 8.

Officials said the show expanded this year's tour to give viewers better access to the some of the country’s top experts. The free evaluations of antiques and collectibles, combined with people's personal stories, often reveal a surprising history and value of the items.

"We've expanded to include two additional stops, which means meeting an additional 10,000 guests this summer," said executive producer Marsha Bemko in a press release, Mlive.com reported. "With an eight-city tour we'll be treated to even more discoveries of America’s stories."
