Dancing With the Stars Fundraiser to Benefit South Oakland Shelter

A dozen Metro Detroit celebrities will pair up with professional dancers this weekend at the Townsend Hotel, raising money for the local homeless shelter.

  • Why Go: The South Oakland Shelter will be throwing its fourth annual Dancing With the Stars fundraiser this weekend at the Townsend Hotel. All proceeds will benefit the homeless men, women and children who receive care and assistance each year at the South Oakland Shelter. The evening includes music, a silent auction, strolling dinner and cockatils. Plus, a dozen Metro Detroit celebrities will take to the dance floor with professional dancers to compete in a special celebrity dance competition. Participating celebrities include:

    • Steven Tapper (Tapper's Diamonds and Fine Jewelry)
    • Susan Thomson (Chrysler Group's head of media)
    • Gerard van Grinsven (Henry Ford West Bloomfield president and CEO)
    • Taylor Gray (Antonio Salon and Spa)
    • Ed Fernandez (WXYZ Channel 7 vice president and general manager)
