Corvette Club Enjoys Borders Lot for What Might Be the Last Time

The 11-year-old club was represented by 175 members in the Birmingham Borders parking lot at the Woodward Dream Cruise.

With , America’s Corvette Club of Michigan is celebrating what could be the last in what has become an annual reunion between the two entities in Birmingham.

Former Corvette Club President Tom Psillas said the club's members have come to Borders during the Woodward Dream Cruise since 2002 to show off their cars and enjoy one other's company. “There are some Corvette clubs which are competitive and some which are social,” said Psillas, 69, of Milford. “We’re getting pretty mature, so we like to sit back, eat and relax.”

Tom Hopp, a member of the club from Shelby Township, summed up that attitude: “We drive to eat, and we eat to drive,” he said, pointing to a tent, paid for by the club, offering a wide range of food items.

Psillas estimated that the 331-member club was represented by 175 members, 50 guests and about 100 cars in the parking lot at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with more soon to come. Psillas said he is proud to help police the lot for Borders and said the club enjoys a good relationship with ownership. “They tell us that we leave it in better condition that it was before we came,” Psillas said.

Hopp said Borders has allowed club members to come a week in advance of the Dream Cruise to put up advertisements in the parking lot for the Corvette Club. “I don’t know if I’ll be back next year,” Hopp said.

Psillas explained that the club would continue to come to the Dream Cruise, but he did not know whether it would be able to enjoy the same amenities. “We’re going to miss it. We might move to a new location next year or we might stay, but we don’t know yet,” he said.
