Corn Festival at the Birmingham Farmers Market

Sample dozens of locally-made corn products Sunday, including roasted sweet corn, kettle corn and caramel corn.

Birmingham's fourth annual corn festival kicks off at 9 a.m. Sunday during the Birmingham Farmers Market at Parking Lot No. 6 on North Old Woodward Avenue.

Enjoy one of Michigan's sweetest harvest vegetables and sample dozens of locally made corn-related products, including roasted sweet corn, popcorn, caramel corn, kettle corn, corn chips and corn bread.

Special vendors, such as 2 Unique Caterers & Event Planners, will be on site making Corn Festival Tacos with shrimp, chicken and veggies. Shoppers can also see and pet a variety of farm animals from Bowers School Traveling Farm.

“This event is a crowd favorite and we’re excited to bring it back for a fourth year,” said John Heiney, executive director of Birmingham’s Principal Shopping District. “We’re expecting about 4,000 people. We’ll be ready with plenty of delicious, roasted sweet corn.”

The Birmingham Farmers Market runs every Sunday through October 28, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The lively outdoor market is located in public Parking Lot 6 on the east side of N. Old Woodward (across from Salvatore Scallopini Restaurant and Booth Park). Every week the market offers fresh prepared foods, live music, a children’s craft area and more. Throughout the summer more than 70 booths will feature a diverse array of locally and regionally grown produce including organic vegetables, fruits, flowers and garden plants, plus baked goods, and some hand crafted items.
