Baldwin Library Book Lovers Can Celebrate World Book Night

Readers 16 years old and up can apply to be book givers during the third-annual global book celebration.

Patrons of the Baldwin Public Library can now apply to become official book givers for World Book Night 2014 through Jan. 5.

The Baldwin Public Library is among the local pick-up locations for World Book Night, which will be celebrated on April 23, 2014. The global effort encourages reading and giving by having individuals hand out copies of pre-selected books to light or non-readers.

The initiative started in England and Ireland in 2011, and included the United States a year later. Organizers, with the assistance of librarians and booksellers, chose 35 official World Book Night titles. Book givers choose 3 of the 35 titles that they’ve read and loved, and apply to hand out copies of those books to light or non-readers. Based upon availability, 20 copies of one of those books are sent to a pick-up location, like the Baldwin Public Library, where book givers meet, pick-up books, and celebrate reading.

Applicants, who must be 16 or older, will deliver the books on April 23.

“Baldwin is proud to be a part of such an exciting campaign,” said Associate Director Kathryn Bergeron. “Baldwin’s mission statement compels us to provide opportunities for individuals to learn, connect, and discover.”
