A small tent village sprouted on the lawn of the First Presbyterian Church in Birmingham Wednesday for the 28th annual Women of Bloomfield Arts and Craft Show.

The Women of Bloomfield helped raise money for disadvantaged youth Wednesday during the 28th annual arts and crafts show at the First Presbyterian Church.

More than 40 vendors from around southeast Michigan, northern Ohio, and even Florida had juried, hand-crafted items on display ranging from jewelry to birdhouses

"There's still a very active volunteer community here that wants to support important charities and help out with the community.  And our focus is on children’s charities.“ said president Terry Stacy.

Stacy said funds raised at the events go specifically to toward transportation costs to bus children along the Woodward Avenue coorridoor to summer camp programs in Walled Lake. They also support CARE House, which serves children and families in abusive homes. The funds are used to supply home-cooked meals for abused children and families.

The women of Bloomfield formed in 1963 as a social group and evolved to a charitable  group in the 1980s. It currently has more than 170 members that meet monthly at private clubs or local restaurants and socialize and volunteer their time. Membership is open to women in any community.
