Baker College presents free 3-D printing seminar May 15

Baker College of Auburn Hills will present a free public seminar titled “3-D Printing is Changing Everything,” Thursday, May 15, 6-7:30 p.m., at Baker College’s Technology Building, 1195 Centre Road, Auburn Hills. Reservations are encouraged.

“New technology is affecting nearly all areas of art, design and manufacturing,” said Beth Nuccio, director for career services at Baker College of Auburn Hills. “This is a great seminar for all types of professional designers, and even interested middle and high school students, who may eventually design for output using 3-D printing.”

The basics of 3-D printing will be explained at the seminar and examples of current and potential use will be shared. Professional creatives and instructors of Baker College’s digital media and information technology programs will present the seminar.

“3-D printing is decreasing manufacturing development times, allowing products to get to market more quickly,” Nuccio said. “However, because the cost of 3-D printing is becoming affordable to a broader market, this technology is set to revolutionize many other areas of business and our everyday lives.

“Soon, anyone, anywhere in the world with 3-D printing capabilities and know-how will be able to produce any object they need on demand. This has the potential of creating what some have characterized as the ‘Third Industrial Revolution.’”
