Birmingham, MI  (June 25, 2012) - Marking the beginning of its 2012-2013 “Season of Dreams Series,” Project DayDream (PD)  proudly announces a delicious production of  WILLY WONKA, directed by Artistic Director Tiffany Victoria Sims with musical direction byMegan Higle and choreography by Jennifer Combs.  A scrumptious treat for the entire family, WILLY WONKA opens on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Seaholm High school in Birmingham where the show will run through Friday, July 20, 2012.  7p.m. curtain for each performance.

Tickets are now on sale. Tickets can be purchased atwww.projectdaydream.org.  Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. 

Roald Dahl's timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life on the DayDream stage in this delicious new musical adaptation of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”  Willy Wonka and his band of Oompa Loompas lead Charlie Bucket, the spoiled-rotten Veruca Salt, gluttonous Augustus Gloop, gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde and television junkie Mike Teavee through a labyrinth of lemon drops, life lessons and giggles galore. 

 

WILLY WONKA features plenty of surprises and memorable songs from the cult classic 1971 film including, “Pure Imagination,” “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” “I Want it Now” and “The Candy Man.” 

Adapted for the stage by Leslie Bricusse (Doctor Doolittle) and Tim McDonald,WILLY WONKA features music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley (Stop the World – I Want to Get Off).

 

Forty-eight aspiring actors from the entire Metropolitan Detroit area are involved in mounting this musical.

The title role of Willy Wonka will be played by Tim Higle (Berkley) and Anya Miller (Waterford) will star as the lovable “Charlie Bucket.”

Project DayDream’s mission is to educate, entertain and enrich the lives of children and their families through the arts.   Tiffany Victoria Sims, Artistic Director, founded Project DayDream in 2002.  Sims’ main objective is to encourage individuals to actively use their imagination in order to dream, think and achieve.
