Parents of children eligible for kindergarten in the fall of 2013 are invited to attend this informative program coordinated by Dr. Joseph Hoffman, Asst. Supt. for Instruction, and Laura Tinsley, BPS Early Childhood Specialist. Hear important information about readiness as well as new legislation that relates to date changes for kindergarten entry from Dr. Joan Firestone, Director of Early Childhood, Oakland Schools. BPS Kindergarten teacher, Dominic Nepa, will speak about Birmingham's full-day kindergarten program and share information about what a typical day in kindergarten looks like.

More About Pierce Elementary School
One of eight elementary schools in the Birmingham Public School District, Pierce Elementary serves one-eighth of the 3,685 elementary-aged students in the district.
From Kindergarten through 5th grade, students take classes in art, music and physical education, as well as core academic subjects. Students begin receiving Spanish instruction in the 3rd grade. Besides having the option to pick up band and orchestra in the 5th grade, students can also participate in community-service activities throughout the year.
Before- and after-school care options include a Kids Club. All elementary schools in the school district come equipped with gymnasiums, separate cafeterias and a stage.
