We are fortunate to be serviced in this area by one of the great hospitals in the United States, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, which is part of Trinity Health. Trinity Health in size is larger than the Henry Ford and Beaumont Health Systems combined and additional consolidation is planned for Trinity in the near future.
For almost ten years, St. Joseph has been under the direction of Jack Weiner, President and CEO, who will update the SMCB on all the accomplishments during the past year including the major new facilities under construction and the new, important partnerships being formed with Wayne State University, DMC Children's Hospital, and other organizations including collaboration by Trinity with the University of Michigan in clinical care, research and medical education.
These are exciting times in health care with many new questions on ObamaCare arising daily. Jack Weiner has led the organization in a major cultural transformation and a $300 million campus redevelopment. As a 443 bed community teaching hospital in Oakland County and under his leadership, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland has become the regional leader in clinical quality and safety. The campus redevelopment and expansion includes the current construction of a new Patient Tower that will include state of the art technology found in only one other hospital in the country.
Jack will take the Senior Mens Club members through these exciting developments as well as tell them about the hospital's many top rankings, such as being one of the top 50 cardiovascular hospitals in the country, and among the leaders for women's health excellence, orthopedic surgery and joint replacement. Prior to joining St. Josephs in 2003, Jack Weiner served as President and CEO of St. Joseph's Mercy of Macomb as well as other positions at hospitals in Grand Rapids, Mount Clemens, Jackson, Kalamazoo, and Philadelphia over a 35 year period. He began as a pharmacist upon completing his PharmD degree in clinical pharmacy in 1974 from Wayne State University. He holds a Master of Arts degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan. Jack is a Birmingham resident.

More About The Community House
The Community House has been a hub for Birmingham residents since 1923. Founded as a location for dances, meetings, concerts and plays, the Community House is a place for all that and more. A nonprofit organization, the Community House strives to provide residents programs, services and educational opportunities to enrich their lives.
The Community House offers classes in fitness and yoga, food and wine, gardening, art and theater. Youth classes and programs are also available. Residents can also use the Community House to book travel arrangements and packages.
The Early Childhood Center at the Community House offers child care and preschool services for children 6 months to 5 years old. The center emphasizes learning through play with the High Scope curriculum. Meals are provided, as are access to Community House programs.
Community members can also take advantage of the Community House Dance Academy, with classes in ballet, pointe, modern, creative dance, jazz, contemporary, tap and ballet workout. Founded in 1964, the Dance Academy is led by a renowned faculty of instructors and choreographers.
The Community House is also a popular location for banquets, corporate events and weddings. Rooms can accommodate 10 to 350 people, include all audio and visual set-up, and feature large windows and a fireplace. The Community House also offers catering options, from continental breakfasts to multicourse meals for special events. Groups can also book the Van Dusen Terrace.
