More About Birmingham Fire Department - Adams St. Station
Facing South Adams Street with an entrance on Bowers Street, the current Adams Street Fire Station has been serving the Birmingham community for more than 10 years. With both a fire engine and ladder truck, the station also mans the only ambulance in Birmingham. Under Fire Chief Mike Metz, the station provides advanced life support and is the home of the department's administrative offices.
The station is also responsible for hazardous materials spills, testing fire hyrdants, conducting building inspections and responding to car accidents and citizens in need of help. The station offers CPR classes and hosts tours and open houses for the public.
The Birmingham Fire Department currently employees 32 people, with 29 full-time firefighters in addition to its administrative staff, a fire chief and two assistant chiefs. The department also maintains 12 vehicles, including several fire engines, ladder trucks, ambulances, staff vehicles and a hazardous-materials truck.
