Robert Tell, the president and CEO of the Metro Detroit affiliate of ITNAmerica addressed the Birmingham Rotary Club at lunch on Monday, and passed along some good news for a growing problem:"
A nonprofit organization, ITNMetroDetroit — short for Independent Transportation Network — is being organized to provide “dignified” rides to seniors and the visually impaired 24/7 in private unmarked cars, said Robert Tell, president of the 501(c)3.
This is good news for Oakland, Macomb and Wayne County residents. ITNMetroDetroit also has backing from the Area Agency on Aging as well as the American Association for Retired Persons.
An initial grant has been received and a $50,000 matching challenge issued. This should allow for operations to start shortly, initially based in Southfield and focusing on Oakland County and the Woodward corridor, eventually serving the whole of the Metro Detroit region.
