Today's cancellation of all Genesee County schools is a good move. This means they aren't confident with their plans to keep our children safe. The State of Michigan must guarantee our kids, and school staff are completely safe from violence. Anything less is unacceptable. We should not be expected to sacrifice our children. No plan, no school.... Keep in mind, this won't be inexpensive.

Schools can only do as good of a job as they are able to do with the limited resources that the state provides.
Better question - with a state legislature that is more than willing to send individuals brandishing weapons into our schools, how safe can schools really ever be?

Thanks. Steve. I still want to know what the State of Michigan is going to do to protect our children. If it means sending qualified individuals with weapons into our schools, I'm OK with that. What I'm not OK with, and I'm pretty sure you aren't either is the status quot. It is not acceptable that our children are subjected to the same level of non-existent safety as before Connecticut. We, and our children deserve better! I know you believe that. I, too would like to hear any member of congress describe their plan.

Let me regress just a little. I really don't believe our schools had zero level of security. I think they had something they believed in. I just want to know that everyone really believes it's the best we can do for our kids.

Unfortunately Robert, the "best" comes at a price. Our state has already shown us time and time again that they're not willing to provide any thing close to the best. They have repeatedly taken money from our public schools only to be given to corporations. Here's a thought.....why don't we demand that the corporations who have benefited from the 1.8 billion dollars that was stolen from the schools and our seniors, provide security to ALL schools in exchange for their tax breaks.
