Amy Weber, the lesbian mother who spoke up against Troy Mayor Janice Daniels at a December Troy City Council meeting, is working on the fictional documentary-style movie 'The Bully Chronicles' to raise bullying awareness.
Bullying. It's a hot topic, it's seemingly everywhere, and it's the focus of award-winning Birmingham filmmaker and lesbian mom Amy Weber's upcoming film, The Bully Chronicles. "In light of the past events with Mayor Daniels, as well as for kids across this country struggling each and every day, I have decided to move forward with a project that is very personal to me – The Bully Chronicles, a movement toward change in the form of a narrative feature film shot in an unscripted documentary style," Weber wrote in an email to Patch. In December, Weber and her wife Tina stood up with their two young daughters to publicly comment on Daniels' Facebook post at a Troy City Council meeting just days after the mayor's anti-gay Facebook status …

The film, which was made entirely in Michigan, enters its second weekend at the Birmingham 8.
The Michigan-made film The Giant Mechanical Man continues its run in Birmingham, with several screentimes scheduled at the Birmingham 8 all weekend long. The film, directed by Lee Kirk and featuring several familiar sights from Southfield, Ferndale and Royal Oak (including the Detroit Zoo), debuted at the Birmingham theater last Friday, with Kirk making special appearances at two of the shows. According to Southgate's News Herald, Kirk thanked his fans and crew for helping him create The Giant Mechanical Man, Kirk's first feature-length film. "I couldn't ask for a better group of actors to be working with, they were so supportive," Kirk said. "For a first time director, that just went so long and far for me." According to the Michigan Film…

Also new at Baldwin Public Library is 'In One Person' by John Irving and the film 'The Vow.'
What's new at Baldwin Public Library this week? Check out this week's Library Picks, courtesy of Baldwin librarians: Home by Toni Morrison Frank Money is an angry, self-loathing veteran of the Korean War who, after traumatic experiences on the front lines, finds himself back in racist America with more than just physical scars. His home may seem alien to him, but he is shocked out of his crippling apathy by the need to rescue his medically abused younger sister and take her back to the small Georgia town they come from and that he’s hated all his life. As Frank revisits his memories from childhood and the war that have left him questioning his sense of self, he discovers a profound courage he had thought he could never possess again. In …

See how interior designers get clever with books galore in various rooms at the Junior League of Detroit Grosse Pointe Shores' home tour, which opens Saturday.
Books seem to be everywhere. Not only are they in homes and on bookshelves, but paperbacks and hardcovers aplenty are also adorning window displays at apparel shops and boutiques and in fashion designer and home-furnishings ad campaigns. There's even book-page wallpaper. Books are wearable, too. Kate Spade, in fact, introduced clutches that replicate classic tomes, from Romeo and Juliet to Emma to The Importance of Being Earnest. Is this our way of holding on to physical books in our Nook-ish, Kindle-ized world of “E?” Perhaps, and that may be why many of the designers at the Junior League of Detroit's (JLD) 2012 Show House used books in a variety of displays. They cherish books not only for design inspiration but also as intriguing …
