Woman Finds Someone Rummaging Through Her Stroller at the Library
According to Birmingham Police, a woman tried stealing a wallet from a stroller but fled when confronted.
Birmingham Police are reviewing surveillance tapes from Baldwin Public Library after a woman reported that another women tried stealing her wallet out of her stroller.
According to police reports, the woman was in the children's section of the library around 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 15. The woman told police she left her stroller in the hallway, just outside the children's area.
At one point, however, the woman told police that she noticed another woman going through her stroller. After approaching her, she said the woman was holding her wallet.
The woman immediately handed the wallet back, then fled the library. According to police, the woman is described as being approximately 20-30 years old, wearing black clothing and with brown hair pulled back into a ponytail.
Anyone with information about this incident can call the Birmingham Police Department at 248-530-1889.

Most of the crime stories involve someone leaving their car or gym locker unlocked, or leaving their purse, phone, wallet, whatever, unattended. Come on, people!

Nothing was ultimately stolen, what's the point of looking for this brown haired lady anyway? Are the police going to scold her?

Why look for her? Maybe because this mother in the library isn't her first victim? Maybe because there may be outstanding warrants for previous arrests? It is empty-headed, "who cares" attitudes like yours that help help propagate crime in our town.

MY point is that since no crime was committed, there is little to nothing law enforcement can do. At this time, the police have her on surveillance footage, so if they were really interested in locating her they would release a photo of her while at the library.
I think at this point the only thing left you have to gripe about is the fact that her race was not identified in the Patch story, which can usually be expected without fail after every crime story is published on this site. African Americans can have brown hair, right? Oops I hope I didn't just open the flood gates.

Actually a crime was committed. The ponytail woman opened the victim's purse and stole the wallet. Before she could get away, she was caught. Then she abandoned the stolen property and ran away before authorities could be called.
Ponytail committed larceny, and if there was more than $100 value in the wallet, the charge could be a felony. Being stopped in the act and/or offering to give the money back doesn't make the crime go away.
MORAL: watch your stuff, folks!
