With June comes the official start to summer in Birmingham, and the calendar is packed with end-of-the-year activities for schoolkids and the start of the summer concert series.

* June 13: Baldwin Public Library "Writers Live" free presentation at 7 p.m. by Daniel Ewald, past Detroit News sportswriter and Detroit Tigers PR director. He'll discuss and sign copies of his 2012 book, "Sparky and Me: My Friendship with Sparky Anderson and the Lessons He Shared About Baseball and Life."
* June 13: 27th annual juried arts and crafts show from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1669 W. Maple, presented by Women of Bloomfield. Bake sale and food booth.
