Why go: Hagopian's Nite Notes Concert Series performance Friday will honor the late Edgar Hagopian, noted Detroit philanthropist and music lover. The Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings will play, with refreshments available. Tickets cost $22 in advance ($10 for students) and $27 at the door. - Birmingham Concert Band's 'Pops Concert'

Why go: Are you thinking of sending your child to the Roeper School? The Upper School campus in Birmingham — where Roeper's middle school and high school-aged students attend — will hold an open house Sunday. Parents and students are encouraged to attend. A presentation, question-and-answer period, tour and sample class will be offered. - Book signing with Mitch Ryder

Why go: Legendary rock 'n' roll icon Mitch Ryder will read excerpts from his new autobiography, Devils & Blue Dresses: My Wild Ride as a Rock and Roll Legend. He'll also sign copies of the book. Plus, stick around for a musical tribute to Ryder from host John D. Lamb and poet M.L. Liebler.
