Baseball

Bloomfield Hills Lahser over TROY, 2-1

Charlie Dauch was Charlie clutch Friday night for the Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School varsity baseball team.

In the fifth inning, Zach Tornow led off the inning with a hit. Dauch came to the plate and belted an RBI double to break a 1-1 tie.

Reliever Neal Krentz pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh to secure the win. Krentz closed down a Colts rally in the fifth by forcing a groundout and getting a strikeout. He also had an RBI double in the top of the first.

Krentz combined with starter Patrick Monahan and Jack Corbell to limit Troy to only three hits in the game.

Dauch and Krentz spoiled a solid pitching performance from Colts starter John Wassel. Wassel allowed twos on six hits and a walk. He struck out eight in six innings.

Lahser put up (7) hits (Tornow (2), Dauch (2 with Double), Krentz double, Manz and Monahan.

Soccer

BERKLEY over Waterford Mott, 3-1

stayed undefeated Friday with a 3-1 win over Waterford Mott.

Karsyn Baker scored twice and the Bears leading scorer Stephanie Miller added another. Julie Shields had four saves in the win.

Berkley improved to 7-0-2 on the season.

ANDOVER and Cranbrook-Kingswood, 2-2 Tie

The ties keep coming for the Bloomfield Hills Andover High School varsity soccer team. A 2-2 tie against Cranbrook-Kingswood on Friday night was the Barons' fifth of the season.

Linn Neef and Anna Kileen each scored for Andover in the win. Remy Houttekier assisted on both goals. On the season, the Barons are 1-4-5.

Boys Lacrosse

TROY over Walled Lake Northern, 13-6

The Troy High School varsity boys lacrosse team beat Walled Lake Northern 13-6 on Friday.

In the first half, the Colts used a big advantage in shots on goal (14-6) to take a 5-1 lead. Nick Kondoleon scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the game.

Troy (9-2) cruised from there, scoring four goals in the third and fourth periods to close out the win.

Kondoleon finished the game tied with Justice Bigelow with a team-high three goals. Jay Darish, Coln McLean and Oliver Jiang each scored twice. Adam Rank led Walled Lake Northern with three goals.

Soccer

FERNDALE over Seaholm, 3-2

Ferndale scored three unanswered goals in the second half against Seaholm on Thursday at home to win a key Oakland Activities Association Blue matchup 3-2.

The Maples came out of the gate looking really sharp. They were trying to avenge a 1-0 loss from earlier in the season against the Eagles.

“They really took it to us in the first half,” Ferndale coach Mike Kuznair said. “We like to push the ball and they were stopping us. I thought we were a little nervous in the first half and we needed to get more aggressive.”

In the second half, Kelsey Wilson started to turn things around for the Eagles with a goal on a direct kick from about 30 yards out.

Ferndale’s leading scorer Lexie Brisson-Fast gave her team a lead with back-to-back goals.

Her second goal put the Eagles ahead 3-2 with about 15 minutes to go in the game. She stole the ball on the wing and pushed it up the field. The senior scored on what her coach called a “beautiful shot.”

“We didn’t panic,” Kuznair said. “That was the first time we really faced adversity in the first half. Instead of letting us effect us, we pulled together and had a great half.

Ferndale is now 9-2-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the Blue. Seaholm is 5-3-1 and 3-2-1 in the Blue.

Andover and CLARKSTON, 2-2 tie

Andover erased a 2-0 deficit in the final five minutes against Clarkston on Wednesday to force a 2-2 tie in an OAA White matchup.

Maggie Seraydarin scored on a penalty kick with 4:04 left in the game. Seraydarin scored again with an assist from Rachel LeFever with only 1:28 left on the clock to tie the game up.

Andover is now 1-4-4 overall and 1-3-3 in the White.

Boys Golf

Berkley over Harrison, 181-171 (at Detroit Golf Club)

Berkley squeaked by Farmington Harrison at the Detroit Golf Club on Wednesday 181-171.

At the par 34 course, a strong team effort propelled the Bears to a win. Jimmy Demery and Eric Israel both shot a 42, Curtis Carne shot a 43 and Nolan Derington shot a 44.

The Hawks’ Kyle Cuscarelly shot the top score of the meet with a six-over par (40), but it wasn’t enough to overcome Berkley’s balanced effort.  For Harrison, Curtis Cuscarelly shot a 46, Eric Chappell had a 47 and Trevor Kubitskey 48.

Boys Track and Field

TROY over West Bloomfield, 68-60

The Troy varsity boys track and field team stayed undefeated in the Oakland Activities Association White with a very close 68-60 win over West Bloomfield (3-1 OAA White) in a dual meet.

Girls Lacrosse

Farmington over WEST BLOOMFIELD, 18-7

Farmington’s balanced offensive attack was too much for West Bloomfield on Wednesday. Eight different Falcons found the back of the net in an 18-7 win.

The trio of Mollie McCarthy, Ella Kearney and Caroline Schneemann each scored three goals for Farmington. Olivia Sax had a team-high three goals for the Lakers. Teodora Lazar scored twice while teammates Emma Hardey and Lexi Cook both added a goal.

Boys Lacrosse

Detroit Country Day over CRANBROOK-KINGSWOOD, 11-9

In a battle of David and Goliath, Detroit Country Day held off a late rally by Cranbrook to win 11-9.

DCD took 4-2 and 8-5 leads after the first and second quarters, respectively. The teams battled back in forth in the second half, with DCD's lead at 10-7 entering the fourth quarter. Cranbrook cut the lead to 10-9 with just more than 5 minutes to play but could not get the equalizer.

Matt Giampetroni led the Cranes with four goals on seven shots, Alex Cha had a goal on two shots with two assists, and one assist, Christopher Brown chipped in a goal on five shots with one assist. Ryan Clair took the loss in net for the Cranes.

Cranbrook falls to 6-4 overall and remains 3-0 in Catholic League.

Baseball

CLAWSON over St. Clair Shores Lakeview, 6-5 (nine innings)

Clawson and St. Clair Shores Lakeview went to extra innings on Wednesday in a Macomb Area Conference Silver division battle.

The Trojans’ Billy Feldbush hit a fly ball to right field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to score Davd Harlukowicz from third for the win.

“Our young team I think got a little older today,” assistant coach Scott Weaver said. “They found something inside of them selves that Clawson has been looking for the past few seasons.”

Clawson (8-3, 3-1 MAC Silver) battled back from a 3-1 deficit early in the game and a 5-3 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Edrey Ocampo drove in two runs with a double to tie the score at 5-5.

Feldbush finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Ocampo was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Justin Smith pitched four innings in relieve and picked up the win.

BERKLEY over Southfield Lathrup, 15-1 (five innings)

Berkley High School continues to look like the team to beat in the Oakland Activities Association Gold.

It won 15-1 Wednesday over Southfield Lathrup to go to 6-0 in the division and 9-0 overall.

On the mound, Nick Bauer gave up a run in five innings. He only allowed four hits and struck out eight.

 went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Taylor Morrissey went 2-for-4 with a single and a double for two RBIs.

FERNDALE over Pontiac, 8-1

Ferndale won its second straight Oakland Activities Association Gold game Wednesday.

The Eagles (4-4; 3-2 OAA Gold) beat Pontiac 8-1 behind seven strong innings from starting pitcher Noah Reiter. Reiter pitched a complete game and the only run allowed was unearned. The senior walked three batters and allowed five hits. He struck out 11.

“He was great today,” Ferndale assistant coach Mike Hand said.

Reiter was also 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs and an RBI. Brandon White was 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Three of the Eagles runs were unearned.

BIRMINGHAM SEAHOLM over Hazel Park, 17-2 (four innings)

Hazel Park’s 2-1 lead quickly vanished when Seaholm came up to bat in the third inning.

The Maples put up eight runs in back-to-back innings to beat the Vikings 17-2 in four innings Wednesday at home.

Daniel Hackert pitched four innings for the win for Seaholm. He gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk. He struck out three batters. Josh Leitman was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day with a double and three RBIs.

Softball

TROY over Farmington, 7-1, 7-2

Kamryn LaCarter’s bat helped Troy sweep a doubleheader over Farmington on Wednesday, 7-1 and 7-2.

“She’s just on fire right now,” Colts coach Tom Calnen said.

LaCarter went 6-for-8 in two games with four RBIs and four runs in the two wins. On Monday, she went 7-for-9 in a doubleheader against Adams with seven runs.

On the mound, Cori Mittelburn also had a nice day for Troy, pitching complete games in both wins. She allowed only two hits and a walk in the first game. In the second game, she had to battle a little more, but managed to limit the damage.

“She pitched really well today,” Calnen said. “They got to her a little late (in the second game), but we left her in to see if she could work out of it and she did.”

Kristen Shetler was 3-for-4 in game one with an RBI. Sally Muller was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. In game two, Jesse Pappas had two hits and two RBIs. Laney Hart was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Troy (8-2; 2-2 Oakland Activities Association Red) plays in a tournament at Anchor Bay this weekend.

“It has some really good competition,” Calnen said. “I think we’ll play Ladywood, who is the top team in Division 2. We’ll see a bunch of teams we don’t normally see.”

ATHENS over Adams, 4-1, 5-1

was at it again on Wednesday in a doubleheader at home against Adams.

The Athens starting pitcher helped the Red Hawks win 4-1 and 5-1 with two complete games.

Zemmer struck out 12 batters and limited the Highlanders to three hits in game one. At the plate, she also knocked in two runs and went 2-for-3. Melissa Palmer was 2-for-4 with a triple.

“Adams didn’t threaten much in the first game,” Red Hawks coach Dave Marr said. “We had tons of chances, but didn’t get very many timely hits.”

In the second game, Athens (8-3; 4-0 OAA White) didn’t have a cushion until it scored two runs in the seven inning. Adams threatened a couple of times and Zemmer had to work her way out of trouble.

She gave up three hits and three walks while striking out nine.

Seaholm over STONEY CREEK, 5-4, 14-3 (six innings)

Seaholm swept a doubleheader at Stoney Creek on Wednesday 5-4 and 14-3 in six innings.

The wins helped the Maples stay undefeated in the Oakland Activities Association Blue division at 4-0 and 8-0 overall.

In the first game, Jordan Lemington scored on a passed ball in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie. Lemington hit a double to lead off the inning. She finished the first game 3-for-4 with an RBI and two doubles.

Riley Miller was 3-for-4 and two RBIs. Carolyn Gregg pitched a complete game for the win.

Seaholm’s bats heated up in the second game with two runs in the third, four in the fourth and eight in the sixth. The Maples finished with 15 hits.

Maddy Cormier went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Emma Coury was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two triples. Elena Brown was the winning pitcher.

Girls lacrosse

Bloomfield United over CLARKSTON, 21-15

Bloomfield United kept up the pressure on Clarkston’s defense in a 21-15 win on Wednesday.

Bloomfield was up 11-7 at halftime and held on to improve to 2-0 in the OAA.  

Junior captain Margaret Metzger had three goals and two assists. Sophomore Emma Mucci scored four goals while sophomores Christina Arens, Jessica Koolwick and Maria D'Angelo each score three times.  

Freshman Annie Reed had six saves on 13 shots and junior Angelica Kunz had seven saves on 16 shots

Boys lacrosse

ROYAL OAK over West Bloomfield, 10-4

The Royal Oak boys lacrosse team kicked off a five-game home stand Tuesday night with a 10-4 win over West Bloomfield.

Trent Naismith and Jake Pasikowski each scored three goals to help the Ravens improve to 3-5 on the season. Royal Oak plays Oxford on Thursday.

Cranbrook-Kingswood over BISHOP FOLEY, 11-6

Both teams battled the high winds at Bishop Foley field.  Cranbrook jumped to a 3-0 first quarter lead and Bishop Foley took advantage of Cranbrook's penalties and miscues to keep the game close in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.   Ryan Clair got the win in net for the Cranes.  Cranbrook is now 6-3 overall and 3-0 in Catholic League.

Track and Field

ANDOVER over Lahser, 108-20 (boys) and ANDOVER over Lahser, 85- 43 (girls)

The boys and girls track and field teams didn’t take it easy on city-rival on Tuesday.

The Barons boys won 108-20 and finished in first place in all but one of the 16 events. The girls weren’t as dominant, but still won easily 85-43.

Baseball

WEST BLOOMFIELD over Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, 7-6

Marcus Armstrong’s single in the bottom of the seventh gave West Bloomfield a 7-6 walk-off win over Orchard Lake St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

The senior pitched the final five innings for the Lakers (7-6) and he helped himself out with his bases loaded hit after allowing two runs in the top half of the inning.

Armstrong was the only West Bloomfield batter to have two hits. He had a triple in the first inning.

Soccer

Seaholm over LATHRUP, 5-0

The Seaholm High School varsity soccer team won a non-league game over Southfield Lathrup on Tuesday 5-0.

It was goalie Lisa White’s fourth shutout of the season for the Maples (5-2-1; 3-1-1 Oakland Activities Association). She had six saves in the win.

Savannah Wiseman started the scoring off with the first of three first half goals for Seaholm. Lily Salvin scored once in each half and Allison Loeffler and Jackie Mee each had a goal.

The Maples have a key divisional game coming up Thursday at Ferndale.

Girls Tennis

ROYAL OAK over Southfield-Lathrup, 8-0

The Royal Oak girls tennis team swept Southfield-Lathrup on Tuesday 8-0 in an Oakland Activities Association Blue division matchup.

The Ravens (4-1-1, 4-0 OAA Blue) host Rochester on Wednesday.

Girls Lacrosse

Oxford over WEST BLOOMFIELD, 14-8

The West Bloomfield girls lost to Oxford on Monday 14-8. Goalie Erika Schneeberger made 10 saves in the loss. Olivia Sax scored three goals, Lindsay Czinder had two and Sarah Harnish, Lauren Tisdale and Teodora Lazar each added a goal.

Bloomfield United over BIRMINGHAM UNITED, 13-11

The Bloomfield United and Birmingham United battled in very close game on the Maples’ home field Monday night.

Birmingham (3-3) had a 6-5 lead at half time, but ultimately fell 13-11.

Sarah Feiten was Birmingham’s top scorer with four goals. Annie Sevec had three and Brenna Bolton added two. Kate Leary had 14 saves in goal. The top scorer for Bloomfield was Margaret Metzger, who led all scorers with five goals.

Baseball

The varsity baseball team’s offense is helping make up for its inconsistent defense.

Robbie Emmit and Kyle Riley drove in six runs to help the Knights erase deficits in the third and fourth inning

“That’s the best part of this team, they do not quit,” Lahser coach John Toth said. “They know when they get down, they can turn it on and win games. They are so resilient and play so hard, as a coach I couldn’t be happier with the effort they give late in games.”

After four errors in the third helped the Red Hawks go up 4-0, Riley hit a two-run double in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead in half.

Emmit came up to bat later in the inning with the bases loaded. He put his team ahead 6-4 with a grand slam over the left field fence.

“He put it right spot for me, I thought I just lined it, but it just carried cause of the wind today,” Emmit said of his first career slam. “I wasn’t quite sure it was going to go out.”

FERNDALE over Oak Park, 9-0

An overall effort helped Ferndale beat Oak Park on Monday, 9-0.

Keith Waldrup pitched six scoreless innings for the win. He only allowed three hits and struck out 11 batters. Eagles starter Noah Reiter struck out the side in the seventh to keep Oak Park off the scoreboard.

At the plate, Waldrup was one of three Ferndale hitters with two hits. He also knocked in two runs. Justin Hammerle finished the game 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. David Paul had two doubles and two RBIs.

In the seventh inning, Trevor Landry picked up his first hit on the varsity squad. The single knocked in two runs to push the Eagles lead to 9-0. They scored at least one run in every inning, but the fourth.

Ferndale (3-4; 2-2 OAA Gold) hosts Pontiac on Wednesday and then plays a doubleheader against Royal Oak Shrine on Saturday.

Soccer

FERNDALE over Harrison, 4-2

Lexie Brisson-Fast is unstoppable.

The Ferndale senior scored three more goals on Monday night in a 4-2 win over Harrison to keep her team undefeated in the Oakland Activities Association White at 6-0-1 (8-2-1 overall).

“She’s incredible,” Eagles coach Mike Kuznair said. “She’s our go-to player and she’s certainly developing a knack for putting the ball in the net. She’s taking on two or three defenders at a time and still scoring. She’s staying patient and very focused.”

Brisson-Fast now has 22 goals in 11 games for Ferndale. Her three goals Monday pushed her career total to 80. She also assisted on a goal from Molly Breen-Bondie.

“They played a very physical game, but we didn’t let it affect our play,” Kuznair said.

The game was tied 2-2 at halftime and with the wind at their backs, the Eagles scored two unanswered goals in the second half.

Ferndale plays a key division game against Birmingham Seaholm on Thursday at home.

“That’s a huge matchup,” Kuznair said. “We beat them 1-0 earlier in the season and they are going to be looking to redeem themselves. We know everybody is chasing us right now.”

Tennis

ROYAL OAK and Brandon, 4-4 Tie

The Royal Oak (3-1-1, 3-0 Blue) and Brandon tennis teams tied 4-4 on Monday. The schools split the singles and doubles matches right down the middle.

Catherine Gray and Susan Rusinowski won No. 2 and No. 3 singles for the Ravens. In doubles, Anna Orletski and Delaney Ryan were victorious in the No. 1 flight as was Sarah Rusinowski and Riana Manabat in No. 2 doubles.

Royal Oak hosts Southfield-Lathrup on Tuesday.

Baseball

BERKLEY over Redford Union 11-1 and 7-2

The Berkley High School baseball team stayed hot over the weekend with a doubleheader sweep over Redford Union on Saturday, 11-1 and 7-2.

In game one, Tyler Tollefson only allowed one run over four innings. He struck out six and walked five batters.

Sean Calender was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a home run. Joey Leider was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored four times. Ian Kobernick was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two stolen bases.

The second game was closer, but the Bears still pulled out a 7-2 win. Riley Klein struck out eight batters in six innings. He gave up two runs (one earned).

Leider and Kobernick picked up where they left off in the first game at the plate. Leider was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Kobernick knocked in a run and was 2-for-3. Nick Bauer was 3-for-4 in the second game with four RBIs.

Lacrosse

Troy over CANTON, 18-2

The Troy High School varsity lacrosse team improved to 6-2 with an 18-2 win over Canton on Saturday.

Senior Nick Kondoleon led all scorers with seven goals for the Colts. Collin McLean scored four goals and Jay Darish added three. Four other Troy players scored in the win.

Troy's senior goalie Bryan Berquist, with support from junior goalie Dan Birkett, have held opponents to only four goals in the last three games. During the stretch, the Colts have outscored their opponents 54-4.

Track

Brandon Invitational: Royal Oak sets records, Andover scores first place

Local teams had some success at the Brandon Invitational on Saturday.

Taha Suhawardy (42.4) placed seventh in the 300-meter high hurdles. Jarred Bratley (9:44) placed third in the 3200-meter run.

The Barons had two relay teams place in the top five. Sydney Roslin, Niki Krear, Mackenzie Gammons and Laura Perry were fifth in the 3200 meter relay (10:58). Lexi Sinclair and Erika Hill were fourth in the discus relay (164').

In the 3200 meter run, which is scored cross country style where the lowest total score of three athletes wins, Andover’s team score of 14 put them in first place.

Lexi Sinclair set a new school record, by 13.7 sec, with a time of 11:04. She was in second place ahead of teammate Mackenzie Gammons , who was in third (11:48) Lise Devits placed in ninth (12:46).

Royal Oak High School set two new school records at the meet. Ben Hill set a record in the 3200-meter run (9:37.2). The Ravens' distance medley relay team also set a new school record (10:52.3; A.Quinn, L.Jackson, M.Benoit, B.Hill).
