Viewfinder: Local Teens Rock the Park

Teens compete in the Battle of the Bands at Shain Park Friday night.

It was a rockin' night in as the Birmingham Bloomfield Youth Action Board (BBYAB) put on their biannual Friday night. Five local teen bands competed but in the end it was Zerapath who won and received a professionally-produced recording session courtesy of The Academy of Music Performance.

Other bands included: Royal Relapse, Glory Roads, The Promiscuous Nuns, and Live the Dash; the latter two also played in the at in January. Special guest Leah Levigne played piano and sung between acts.

Geri Rinschler, school board trustee and one of the founding moms of the youth organization, said she was pleased with the turn out. The group was started in 1994 by 12 moms concerned about the possibility of drug use by youth. The Birmingham-Bloomfield Community Coalition's mission is "keeping the youth in our community safe and substance free".
