Battery cores stolen from Batteries Plus
Birmingham Police are investigating after five automotive battery cores worth $200 were stolen from Batteries Plus sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. According to police reports, this is the second battery core theft at Batteries Plus in a week.
Employees catch man stealing Tigers hats from Varsity Shop
A man was arrested on theft charges last Friday afternoon after Varsity Shop employees told police they caught him stealing Detroit Tigers hats. According to police reports, employees saw the man place three ballcaps under his coat around 12:45 p.m. Friday at the downtown sports shop. Employees caught up with him outside and took the hats from him. The man then ran away, though police later found him at Powerhouse Gym and arrested him on charges of retail fraud, according to police reports.
Officers searching for missing driver after police chase
Detectives are investigating after the driver from a police chase eluded officers early Sunday morning. According to police reports, officers on patrol first saw a vehicle making erratic turns on Woodward near Maple around 3:15 a.m. When officers tried to stop the car, reports state the car fled quickly north on Woodward.
Officers stopped pursuing the car at Big Beaver and Woodward, though a search of the license plate showed the owner lived on Braeman Drive in Troy. When officers arrived at the address, they found the vehicle in question in the home's driveway, unoccupied, with the engine running and the doors locked.
Garage door opener, keys taken from car parked on Hidden Ravines
Several items were taken from a car parked on the 800 block of Hidden Ravines sometime overnight Monday. According to police reports, the car was parked in the owner's driveway and items taken include a garage door opener, loose change and some keys. The owner told police they weren't sure if the car was locked.
Birmingham woman facing drunken driving charges in Farmington Hills
A 44-year-old Birmingham woman faces a charge of drunken driving after a Farmington Hills police officer clocked her vehicle traveling 53 miles per hour in a 35-miles-per-hour zone on 14 Mile west of Drake last Friday morning.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. Friday and the woman didn't stop for officers until reaching a red light at 14 Mile and Drake. The officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol on the woman's breath; a preliminary breath test showed the woman's blood alcohol was .16, twice the .08 legal limit. She was released into her husband's custody after he posted $200 in bond.
