Two Detroit men were arrested Wednesday in connection with an early morning home invasion on Webster, forcing a lockdown at Our Shepherd Lutheran School as police searched the neighborhood for suspects.

According to a release from the Birmingham Police Department, the home invasion occurred around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday on the 1600 block of Webster. Homeowners told police they were awakened by their home security alarm and discovered two men that had climbed in through the kitchen window. Both men, police say, then fled the house.

Together with the Beverly Hills and Troy police departments, began searching the neighborhood for suspects, calling in a K-9 unit from Troy. During the search, Our Shepherd Lutheran School — located on East Lincoln between Torry and Eton — was locked down from 8-9 a.m.

According to police, one of the suspects was taken into custody around 8:15 a.m. near 1800 E. Lincoln, approximately one block from the reported home invasion.

During the search, Birmingham police then found a vehicle parked near the scene that had been recently stolen out of Madison Heights. Several items reported stolen from garages on Webster and Torry were found inside the vehicle, police say.

In addition, a resident on the 1500 block of Birmingham Boulevard told police their car had been stolen overnight. Using OnStar, officers were able to track and locate the vehicle in Detroit.

Upon finding the vehicle, police arrested the man driving it as the second suspect in the home invasion. Both men were 19 and 20 years old. Detectives continue to investigate other crimes the suspects may have been involved in.
