Police Arrest 2 on Intoxication Charges; Man Accused of Attempted Whiskey Theft

Beverly Hills man accused of trying to steal whiskey at Kroger

A 55-year-old man from Beverly Hills was arrested Wednesday afternoon at Kroger for allegedly trying to steal two bottles of whiskey.

According to police reports, the man was observed by store employees around 4:30 p.m. walking into the liquor aisles and removing two bottles of Gentleman Jack whiskey from the shelf. He then walked to another aisle and put the bottles into his backpack, the reports state.

According to police, the man then walked to the checkout lane and purchased a bag of snacks. He was stopped as he was trying to leave the store by employees, who tried to take the man to a back office. According to reports, once the man was told police were being called, he tried to run away and had to be forcefully restrained until officers arrived.

The man was taken into custody and was charged with third-degree retail fraud.

Intoxicated minor discovered in the road

A 20-year-old from Farmington Hills was arrested for disorderly conduct around midnight Saturday. According to police reports, police found the man near the intersection of Woodward and Oak Street, hunched over in the road. The man was unable to walk straight when officers approached him, police reports state, leading officers to believe the man was intoxicated.

The man told police he was 21 years old, but police later determined the name he gave was false and that he was actually 20 years old. According to police reports, a preliminary breath test showed the man had a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit to drive. The man was arrested, charged with disorderly conduct and minor in possession, held until sober and released with a court date.

Woman drives into tree, unable to explain how it happened

A woman was arrested last Saturday night for operating a vehicle while intoxicated at Woodward and Hazel. According to police reports, an officer on patrol discovered a car had hit a tree in the Woodward Avenue median around 3 a.m. Saturday. Police say the driver, a 21-year-old from Oak Park, was unable to pass a sobriety test and was placed under arrest. Reports state the woman, who was held until sober and then given a court date, was not able to explain how the incident occured.
