Is Anyone Missing This Dog?
Birmingham resident Barb Mossner likes her new adopted dog, but wonders about his original owner.
Birmingham resident Barb Mossner recently posted a photo of her newly-adopted rescue dog in the Birmingham Patch Pics & Clips gallery, but not just to mark the special occassion — she genuinely hopes to find the animal's previous owner.
Mossner adopted the dog from Almost Home Animal Shelter in Southfield last weekend, and would like to have a new companion for her aging dog at home. But she said something about how well-behaved, groomed and acclamated the dog is makes her feel like someone out there is missing him.
"He's housebroken, friendly, and isn't scared of any of his surroundings, and I just can't believe no one is looking for this dog," she said. "If I lost my dog, I'd be beside myself. But I just can't find anyone looking for him."
The staff at the no-kill shelter could only tell Mossner that the white, young adult male Bichon mix was found as a stray on Oct. 16. She said a location was not available. The dog is neutered, weighs about 16 pounds, and was recently groomed in a 'puppy' cut, she said. His legs are a little longer than most Bichons.
Anyone with more information is encouraged to call Mossner at 248-928-3074.

Wow, be careful with that story and all those pictures. How is she going to have the "real" owner prove it if someone claims to be the lost owner? Also, if you get into shelter work, you know that pets are dumped or surrendered for some crazy reasons. The dog may actually be much better off where it is now.

I'd also urge the editors to learn the facts about shelters before slapping around the phrase "no kill shelter". The public is easily deceived by such labels and the facts are quite dirty when you scratch the surface. "No kill" does not equal "better" or "more humane" or anything else. It also does not mean that other shelters are doing anything wrong.

It looks like a dog I saw in one of the sites I checked for lost dogs. I saw a stray the other day, was not able to catch it and started looking online for any postings. Google lost and found pets in michigan and scour the ads, there are many. Don't assume they are not looking. Also not all pets are given up to shelters for "crazy" reasons. Sometimes the owners have been evicted, can't afford the pet, the owner is deceased, kid is allergic, etc,not all are bad dogs, or cats.

sorry, I didn't read the whole story, obviously you are not assuming his owners are not looking. If you don't find them, it sounds like he has a good home anyway : )
