Groves swimmer Scott Crosthwaite won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for March 5-11 with 753 votes after a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers in Oakland County, or 51 percent of the votes cast last week. He narrowly beat out Avondale gymnast Ashley Moskal, who had 623 votes.

At the Division 2 swim finals at the Holland Aquatics, Crosthwaite had quite the weekend.

The senior won two individual titles and helped his team win a championship in the 400 freestyle relay. He finished first in the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle. With Noah Zamler, Tom Power and Steven Curry, the Falcons placed first in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:07.93.

Ashley Moskal –  Avondale High School (Gymnastics): Moskal finished second all-around at the Division 1 state finals with a score of 38.375.

Matthew Wolkhamer - Seaholm High School (Swimming): Matthew Wolkhamer won an individual title in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 58.19 at the Division 2 state finals. As part of the Maples 200 yard medley relay, he finished in fourth place.

Nate Stepney – Ferndale High School (Basketball): Ferndale senior forward Nate Stepney’s monstrous game powered his team to a 66-52 win on Friday night in the district finals over city-rival University.
