Dailey Method Exercise Studio Sets Jan. 11 Grand Opening Date
Mix up your New Year's workout routine with Michigan's first Dailey Method studio, opening next week in Birmingham.
Hitting those New Year's resolutions just got a little easier.
The Dailey Method — a workout routine that combines ballet barre work, core conditioning, muscle strengtehning, yoga and orthopedic exercises — is coming to Birmingham, with Michigan's first studio slated to open on Woodward next Friday.
The Dailey Method Birmingham will be moving into 34665 Woodward Ave., located on the ground floor of the Birmingham Place condo complex. The grand opening date is set for Friday, Jan. 11.
The studio will be owned and run by Michigan native and Dailey Method master teacher, Carly Goidosik.
"I'm so excited to open the first (Dailey Method) in Michigan," said Goidosik, an East Lansing native.
But what is the Dailey Method? Founded on kinesiology and core alignment principles, the exercise routine was first pioneered in 2000 by Jill Dailey McIntosh in San Francisco. Combining a variety of strengthening routines — from yoga to ballet — Goidosik said the Dailey Method works to strengthen, ton and lengthen the entire body while providing quick physical results.
Already, there are 46 Dailey Method studios open across the United States, most of which are clustered in California or around Chicago. This will be the first studio to open in Michigan.
Goidosik said agreeing to open the Dailey Method studio in Birmingham, she's worked to renovate the 2,000 square-foot space on Woodward, gutting the interior and adding carpet and walls.
Birmingham was, she said, a natural choice for the Dailey Method.
"When we were scouting locations in Michigan, we fell in love with Birmingham," Goidosik said. "I love the feel of the downtown and the people. And Birmingham is such a huge fitness community."
To celebrate its grand opening, Goidosik said her staff of four teachers will be hosting eight community classes for free on Jan. 11-12. In addition, Goidosik is currently offering six weeks of unlimited classes for $100. Register for both the free community classes or purchase the pre-opening package at www.thedaileymethod.com/birmingham.html.
After the studio opens, Birmingham's Dailey Method will be offering an abbreviated schedule of 24 classes per week, Monday-Saturday from 6 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Eventually, Goidosik said she hopes to offer 40 classes a week and hire up to 12 instructors. Childcare is available for busy moms, Goidosik added.
Currently, Goidosik said one drop-in class at the Dailey Method will cost $20, however Method fans can purchase class packages to lower the per-class cost.
