Contest: What Do You Love About Birmingham in the Spring?

Win a chocolate bunny from Schakolad, just in time for Easter: Just tell us what you love about warmer weather in Birmingham, and you'll be in the random drawing.

Who doesn't love spring?

Even though the temperatures have been up and down this past week, spring has sprung in Birmingham — whether it's the sight of colorful flowers outside Baldwin Public Library, the cafe tables in Shain Park or the sight of families sunning themselves at city parks.

So we want to know: What do you love about Birmingham in the spring? Is it the Celebrate Birmingham parade in May? The opening of the Farmers Market? Or is it just long walks with your dog around your neighborhood and evenings at the Dairy Mat?

Leave your answer as a comment on this story. The winner — which will be chosen randomly on Thursday, April 5 — will receive a taste of spring only to be found in Birmingham: a $25 chocolate bunny from Schakolad Chocolate Factory, just in time for Easter.

Here are the official rules:

Hi! As an adult, my favorite thing about Birmingham in the springtime is all of the gorgeous blossoms on the trees in town, but the story I want to share with you today is from my childhood. I grew up a few streets west of Quarton Lake. When the spring rains would come, my brother and I, and some of our neighborhood friends, would throw on rain coats, boots and umbrellas. We'd watch a river of water, that usually started as a flooded drain on Oak Street, flow down the hill towards the lake. It was always exciting to see just how much water was pouring down the waterfall. (From a safe distance of course!) The magic part would be, when it rained so much that the waterfall would really look like white water rapids to us kids. Some springtime adventure in Birmingham! :)

I love all of the beautiful parks in Birmingham. During Spring, they are especially great because the kids are so happy just to be outside. I love to take my kids and sit and watch all the kids play excitedly.

One of my favorite things about Birmingham in the Spring is seeing so many people outside and walking through town. I also love to see lines at the Dairy Mat.

I love all the beautiful blossoms around town, the smile on people's face, the patios opening again... it feels good! I always anticipate the Birmingham Art Fair on Mother's Day week-end, one of the best around metro Detroit.
