Best Thing We Ate This Week: Ice Cream on the First Day of Summer
It's hot out this week, so what better way to celebrate the first day of summer than checking out a Birmingham favorite?
It's been hot this week — really hot. So for this week's Best Thing We Ate, I thought: what better way to cool down than with ice cream?
I've been to the Dairy Mat before, so this time I checked out the Dairy Deluxe on the south end of town, on Woodward Avenue just north of 14 Mile. I live on the north side of town, and the Dairy Mat is just a quick bike ride away, and so I wasn't as familiar with the Dairy Deluxe although I've heard plenty of Birmingham residents rave about it.
And for good reason too: my vanilla cone dipped in sprinkles (although as you can see, they are not the patriotic sprinkles I was promised on the menu) hit the spot perfectly on a hot day. I also like the Dairy Deluxe's comprehensive menu of frozen yogurt treats as well. I may not be a yogurt fan, but I know a lot of folks who are.
And so, as the summer kicks off in Birmingham, what's your favorite frozen treat at the Dairy Deluxe? Let us know in comments below!

Dairy Deluxe has been a family favourite for years!!!! We love it! You have to try the milkshakes made with real fruit. Raspberry is the best! Honestly, the sizes and cost are much better than the Dairy Mat!

Dairy Deluxe is awesome and he usually opens in February!! A twist with sprinkles, hot fudge sundae or a shake are favorites.
