Arson in Vacant Home; Television Monitor Taken from Church

Arson Fire on Maryland Street Home
Birmingham Police and Fire were called to a house fire on the 1800 block of Maryland on Sept. 22. The fire was started in the rear porch area, with the rear door window having been broken out. The fire was believed to be intentional, and minor damage was done to the porch area. Further investigation revealed the house had not been occupied for the past seven years.
Items Stolen from Holy Name Church
A 50-inch television monitor and bracket were taken from Holy Name Church sometime during the evening Sunday. Employees believe the property may have been taken by a contractor/employee who has access to the building. An investigation is ongoing.
Pain Medication Taken from Sav-On Drugs
Officers responded to a breaking and entering alarm at Sav-On Drugs around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday. A side door had been pried open and it was discovered that several different types of pills, mainly pain medications, were missing from the pharmacy area. A K-9 was called to the scene to try and track the suspects but was met with negative results.
