Empty buildings. Vacant storefronts. "For Lease" signs during your morning commute.

No one likes to see them, but it seems like we all have an opinion about what should fill the empty spaces around town. So Birmingham Patch is asking you: what do you envision for Birmingham's vacancies?

This week, we asked you about the empty storefront at 223 W. Maple.

Patch readers had several unique ideas for the empty storefront, located in the heart of downtown across the street from Adventures in Toys and next door to Detroit Guitar.

  • A.W.: A wig store
  • Jane Bonanata: Blow dry Bars are sweeping the nation. I want a $35 wash & blow out with no appt necessary.
  • last minute lynn: How about a Michigan (the State, not just the University) store? They could also feature lots of Detroit merchandise. Think gifts baskets with Vernors, Sanders, etc.
  • Moses Fridman: Art supply/crafts shop?

So what do you think of these ideas — good or bad? Got some ideas of your own? Let us know in comments!
